Dads are a diverse breed. They are not one personality, one role, one age. They speak different languages – some use their words, others their hugs; some communicate through quality time, gifts or acts of kindness. Some prefer calm waters, others like their rivers rugged…
Whichever kind of Dad you are, however you show your Dadhood, you will find a home for it on the Zambezi, a place for it to thrive and to remind you, once again, of the many joys of being a father.
Here are six of our favourite activities for fathers, whether travelling with the whole brood, friends, or solo…
1. For Fisherdads
Try your hand at catch-and-release fishing with us, whether you consider yourself a novice or pro, are travelling with the kids, friends or unaccompanied… Royal Chundu is renowned among the angling fraternity for our tiger-fishing. Among the virgin island eddies, shallow rapids and deep flowing channels, you’ll also find bream and the prized Upper Zambezi Yellow Fish.

2. Canoeing & Cruising
Paddle the Zambezi River by canoe or take it in from a river cruise – whether during the day to seek out the birdlife or in the evening to catch the sunset over one of Africa’s greatest rivers.
3. A Victoria Falls Adventure
For the Bear Grylls dads, the Victoria Falls is considered Africa’s Adventure Capital, with just about every kind of thrill to be sought… White-water rafting, abseiling and gorge-swinging, micro-lighting, helicopter flights, bungee jumping, Devil’s Pool or Angel’s Pool, jet-boating…
4. A Walk in the Woods
Amble along the hippo-trodden pathways of our small private island, Katombora, with one of our guides, to get closer to the Zambezi wilderness and its unique trees and animal life… Like Bill Bryson in “A Walk in the Woods”, here on the island, “Life takes on a neat simplicity… Time ceases to have any meaning. When it is dark, you go to bed, and when it is light again you get up, and everything in between is just in between. It’s quite wonderful, really.
“You have no engagements, commitments, obligations, or duties; no special ambitions and only the smallest, least complicated of wants; you exist in a tranquil tedium, serenely beyond the reach of exasperation… There is no point in hurrying because you are not actually going anywhere. However far or long you plod, you are always in the same place: in the woods. It’s where you were yesterday, where you will be tomorrow. The woods is one boundless singularity. ” – Bill Bryson
5. Beers & BBQs
To make up for all the barbecues you have reigned over, take this time to lie back in your hammock with a cold beer while the Royal Chundu chefs see to a special riverside BBQ breakfast or lunch.
6. Cigars & Cocktails
Leave the little kids out of this one, but be sure to invite your older offspring… for a good cigar, your favourite cocktail – or your choice of our whiskies and wines – and the backdrop of your choice, whether the quiet of your suite or at the bar…
