Our two lodges on the banks of the Zambezi River, you might have heard by now, recently received a beautiful makeover, a soft refurbishment under the design team of Artichoke.
The lodges’ suites blend together the colonial elegance that has always been present with a more characteristic African charm, one unafraid of colour and patterns.
Royal Chundu River Lodge is the arrival point for our guests and encapsulates the colours of the magical sunsets experienced in Zambia. It features elements of the printed bright coloured fabrics worn by the traditional African dancers and local villagers. The baskets they carry on their head and use for storage can been seen in the use of cane furniture and grass matting.
“We painted various walls at River Lodge to reproduce the colours and design from the cushions to lift and give definition to the various areas. We also painted the pool wall which makes a fabulous statement and can be seen from across the river” says Caline Williams-Wyn, Artichoke.
Extra seating areas were created on the deck so guests can relax and enjoy the majestic Zambezi River in in comfort and style.
Island Living
At Royal Chundu Island Lodge, cobalt blues of Africa and natural browns form the colour palette for the lodge and villas. We created a new dining area and small conversational areas for guests – so that you can enjoy the Zambezi from all angles of the lodge. The wall of the main fireplace is now a bold and bright blue and white, a definite focal point of the room.
Accessories sourced throughout Africa complete the look across both lodges.
“We adore the new looks that have been created across the lodge. The colour palettes are truly African. The décor is relaxed yet sophisticated and offers our guests the best in comfort so they can experience the Zambezi at its best,” says Royal Chundu MD, Tina Aponte.
